REPORT - EFSM - Council Meeting - Turku, Finland 2008, June 13th 2008

Attending members:

Alain Gilbert (Secretary General 2000-2008), Bruno Battiston (Secretary General 2008-2012), Jens Jørgen Elberg (Denmark), TC Teo (England), Alexandru Georgescu (Romania), Marco Innocenti (Italy), Erkki Tukiainen (Scandinavian), Murat Topalan and Ferit Demirkiran (Turkish), Mihai Ionac (EMRA President), Pierluigi Tos (Internet Committee).

The council meeting took place on the occasion of the 9th Congress of the European Federation of Societies for Microsurgery, held during June 12-14, in Turku, Finland.

Prof Gilbert introduce the key points that are to be discussed.

Some rules in the Bylaws of the Federation are to be changed to improve the organization of the Federation :

  • the new bylaws, approved by the Council will be present on the website (www.efsm.eu).
  • One of the most discussed problems was the fees to be member of the Federation and to establish a Secretariat for the EFSM; the final decision was that each country / group of countries has to pay 300 € per year to the Treasurer of the Federation and the organising committee of each Scientific Congress will pay to the Federation 2000 € from the conference income.
  • Dr. Battiston ask to Dr Tos (Treasurer of the Italian Society) to indicate the way to open an account for this purpose and the council asked to Dr Tos to became the first Treasurer of the EFSM.

Dr Battiston is elected by the council as next Secretary General of the Federation.

Dr Elberg asks to the Federation to have a separate place for the Denmark Society. The council agrees.

Dr Teo is invited to assist to the Council Meeting with the target of establishing new contact with a British delegate. If not, as stated by bylaws, British Society will be no more part of the EFSM.

With the new bylaws EFSM Committee are created :

  • Educational Committee (Training, Courses, etc)
  • Web Site Committee
  • Research Committee (EMRA)
  • Relationships Committee
  • Guidelines and meetings Committee.

Members of the Federation are invited to participate.

The Council accepts Genova (Italy) as the site of the next European Congress in 2010 (Presidents C. Campisi and B. Battiston).
